Bislama dictionariesAvailable for download here are draft versions of basic English-Bislama, Bislama-English, and Bislama-French dictionaries produced as part of a project to catalogue the languages of Pentecost Island. (The French-Bislama dictionary is still under construction.) These dictionaries are designed to reflect Bislama as it is spoken on rural islands, and therefore lack a lot of urban words such as "bus" and "air conditioning" (most of which come straight from English anyway). If you have any comments about these drafts, please get in touch. I'd appreciate the feedback. Download...(These downloads are PDF files. If you find that you cannot open them, try downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader.) An alternative Bislama/English translator is available on the TVET web site. For a full and authoritative guide to Bislama, get a copy of A New Bislama Dictionary by Terry Crowley. |
